Casinos

Casino orignally meant a small place built for pleasure, usally on the grounds of a larger Italian villa. About the time of the 19th century, casinos were places of which pleasurable activities, including gambling and sport took place. One of the more popular places to gamble, Las Vegas, was originally established as a railroad town on May 15, 1905. In 1931 the Nevada legislature approved a legalized gambling bill created by Phil Tobin, a Northern Nevada rancher. The success of his El-Rancho Hotel & Casino in the 1940's caused a small building boom of several hotel-casinos, and thus created what people now today call the "Las Vegas Strip". Since the days of the gangster owned casinos, casinos has evolved into much more than just gambling. There are several shops, enterainment, resturants, and sites to enjoy. Big corporations have bought, sold, remodeled, and renamed the hotels to create themed locations and tailor to different people's tastes. Today casinos are ever evolving to include new games for gamblers and the hottest talent for entertainment around the world.

Gambling is still the biggest attraction to casinos. Serveral games are bet on and the winnings can be anywhere from small to large. Cards, Dice, Slot Machines, and even sporting events such as football, hockey, soccer, baseball, horse racing, etc. are used to bet upon. Winnings are generally based upon how much is bet and what the payout is. Serveral games have different versions, and upon their popularity, are incorporated into most casinos. One example of this is Texas Hold'em, where traditional poker has been given a new twist. Even some of the popular card games played between two people, such as War, Gin, or even a single player game such as solitare can be bet upon. As long as people love to be entertained and win money, casinos will be around for a long time.
